Desesperada (‘Desperate’) is a piece I composed this year as part of a jazz project given to us by our faculty. It was chosen amongst other projects in the class and interpreted by professor Roberto Nieva and other musicians from outside the faculty.
It’s a jazz-funk quartet for piano, drums, bass and alto sax. This piece has been one of my personal favourites since it gave me the chance to explore jazz and its subgenres, something I was in no way familiar with prior to this.
Sadly, we had the inconvenience that, a trumpet was supposed to be included in the piece as well, but since the player couldn’t make it on the day of the performance, we had to rearrange our pieces to cut the instrument out.
